Illustratrice et tatoueuse, Violette Lovecat est aujourd’hui reconnue pour son style unique et sa technique minutieuse. Elle nous partage ici son parcours et ses inspirations. &nbsp; Comment as-tu commencé à dessiner ? Quand t’es-tu orientée vers le tatouage et pourquoi ? J’ai commencé à dessiner quand j’étais enfant. Avec mon père, on lisait beaucoup de bandes dessinées de différents dessinateurs, allant de Régis Loisel à Enki Bilal par exemple. Il m’a aussi fait découvrir de fascinants illustrateurs comme Frazetta et Mœbius. Il m’a appris les bases, à dessiner les proportions du corps, les perspectives, en même temps qu’il m’a appris le vélo. C’est comme ça que j’ai commencé à prendre goût au dessin et depuis, je n’ai jamais arrêté. Je me suis orientée vers le tatouage il y a une dizaine d’années, aux alentours de la vingtaine, car j’ai un ami qui apprenait le tatouage à ce moment-là. Il m’y a initiée en me mettant une machine dans les mains alors que j’étais en train de finir mes études en communication visuelle. Ce domaine m’a tout de suite attirée. J’ai toujours aimé dessiner sur la peau, j’aimais orner le corps de mes amis au feutre, discrètement, pendant certains cours. Ça m’a tout de suite parlé ! On retrouve beaucoup d’influences asiatiques dans tes réalisations, en particulier japonaises, qu’est-ce qui t’inspire dans cette culture ? Effectivement, on retrouve beaucoup d’influences japonaises dans mon travail. Je trouve que c’est une culture très inspirante, très belle. Le contraste qu’on peut voir à tous les niveaux me fascine, que ce soit dans leur manière d’être, dans leur nourriture, dans leur quotidien, ou tout simplement dans leur art… Tout n’est que contraste et je trouve ça magnifique. J’essaie de retrouver ça dans mes créations : le côté à la fois brut et doux, sombre et lumineux, prosaïque et poétique. Tu as un style très identifiable, comment l’as-tu trouvé et comment le définirais-tu aujourd’hui ? Je suis déjà très contente d’entendre que j’ai un style reconnaissable, c’est extrêmement valorisant. L’idée qu’on puisse reconnaître un dessin que je fais me touche beaucoup ! Je qualifierais ce style géométrique de “dotwork blackwork”, c’est-à-dire le mélange de formes géométriques avec le végétal, l’animal, le féminin, des dégradés de points, des trames de points, avec des éléments plus dessinés, détaillés et réalistes. On retrouve encore ces contrastes dont je parlais avec la minutie, le travail du détail, à l’opposé des grands aplats, des courbes et des lignes. En général, je souhaite mettre en valeur l’ésotérisme et le féminin dans mes créations. Te souviens-tu du premier tatouage que tu as réalisé ? Quel regard portes-tu sur ton évolution en tant qu’illustratrice et tatoueuse ? Le tout premier tatouage que j’ai créé avant de le tatouer était une tête de chat avec des formes géométriques en dot autour. Cette réalisation m’a permis de prendre conscience de ce que je souhaitais réellement faire, vers quel style de tatouage je voulais m’orienter. Dessiner pour des tatouages m’a aidée à me développer en tant qu’illustratrice. L’alliance de la pratique du dessin et l’exigence technique du tatouage pousse à développer sa vision et à évoluer plus rapidement et plus efficacement. Le “dotwork” fait partie intégrante de tes tatouages, peux-tu nous en dire plus sur cette technique ? Le “dotwork” est ce qu’on appelle le travail au point, il s’agit d’introduire dans la peau des petites touches d’encre point par point qui permettent de créer des lumières, des contrastes, des ombres, des nuances. Même si ça n’est qu’en noir et blanc, le volume et le contraste sont présents grâce à ce travail au point, ce “dotwork”. Il s’agit d’une technique variée, il y a plusieurs façons de la travailler. On peut donc faire du point par point mais aussi du “whip shading”, il s’agit d’une sorte de gratté de points, des lignes très fines qui font plein de petits points et qui créent des dégradés de points. En fonction de l’orientation de ces lignes, on peut créer du mouvement. Cette technique demande pas mal de temps et de patience mais le rendu en vaut le détour. Le mélange de ces deux techniques permet de jouer sur la matière, c’est fascinant ! Je prends un réel plaisir à travailler de cette manière. Qu’est-ce qu’un bon tatoueur selon toi ? Un bon tatoueur, selon moi, est avant tout une personne qui est à l’écoute, qui arrive à comprendre la sensibilité de son client et qui puisse mettre sur papier la fusion entre la demande du client et son art, tout en ayant la capacité de le guider, de l’orienter, car dans le tatouage nous ne pouvons pas tout faire. Il faut parfois savoir mettre de côté certains éléments pour en mettre d’autres en valeur, pour qu’à la fin ce tatouage évolue correctement et soit harmonieux par rapport à la création, l’emplacement du corps et à la vision du client. Qu’est-ce que tu préfères dans ton métier de tatoueuse ? Il y a énormément de choses que j’aime dans mon métier. Déjà, le contact avec les gens, le fait de comprendre leur vie, ce qu’ils font, pourquoi ils se font tatouer… Et surtout, qu’une création puisse prendre vie grâce à cette personne-là ! Je trouve ça génial. Que quelqu’un puisse adopter un visuel que j’ai créé et fusionner avec, ça prend vie, ça rend les choses concrètes. J’éprouve une réelle satisfaction et ça donne une raison de faire ce métier. Quel est le projet rêvé que tu aimerais concrétiser dans le futur ? Je n’ai pas un projet rêvé, mais plusieurs. Je souhaiterais développer ce que je fais sur d’autres supports. L’univers de la joaillerie et des bijoux est une grande passion. J’aimerais un jour pouvoir collaborer avec une marque ou un créateur qui me permettrait d’associer mon univers à quelque chose qu’on peut porter sur soi, de visuellement fort mais aussi délicat. D’autres projets m’attirent beaucoup comme la création de fresques, des collaborations avec des belles marques, des beaux supports… Tout ce qui est accessoires mais également décoration d’intérieur. Cela me parle énormément, je suis actuellement en train d’apprendre la céramique, j’aimerais développer cet axe-là. Je souhaiterais tout simplement continuer à ouvrir mon univers à tout ce que j’aime : vêtements, peintures, accessoires, décoration… et bien d’autres ! Oh la la la question… Au départ, c’était Violette Bleu-Noir parce que j’étais apprenti là-bas. Maintenant, j’y travaille mais ce n’est pas moi qui ai fondé le salon donc ce n’était pas si légitime comparé aux fondateurs. J’ai toujours voulu m’appeler Lovecat, donc là je me suis lancée. Raconte ! Ça combine deux choses qui m’inspirent: l’amour et les chats… C’est niais mais ça me fait kiffer, c’est une source d’inspiration illimitée. Bien sûr, c’est aussi un clin d’œil à l’écrivain Lovecraft, dont l’univers fantastique et onirique m’inspire beaucoup. Et c’est aussi un grand amoureux des chats. (sourire) La semaine dernière, ton agenda a réouvert…en trois heures, tu as booké trois mois de tatouages, les gens se pressaient aux portes du shop des heures à l’avance. Ça t’a fait quoi ? J’étais contente. J’étais impressionnée. Ce n’est pas quelque chose dont j’ai l’habitude, du coup j’avais un peu le bout des doigts qui tremblaient ! Pourquoi ton travail plaît, d’après toi ? Peut-être parce que c’est fin et poétique. La nature, les animaux, l’espace, un petit côté kawaii, qui peut être à la fois dark et lumineux. Le côté impactant et structuré aussi…C’est peut-être ça qui parle ! Tu as le sentiment d’appartenir à un courant ? On fait partie de la nouvelle génération de tatoueurs, parce qu’on n’a pas la prétention de savoir tout faire techniquement. On est plus orientés dans un style particulier, en l’occurrence pour moi le travail au dot, les aplats de noir, des lignes de contour, et cela uniquement en noir. La génération précédente pouvait répondre techniquement à n’importe quelle demande. Là, c’est un parti pris d’orienter son travail que dans un seul style. Mais il y a quand même des tatoueurs actuels, formés à l’ancienne, qui ont encore ce savoir-faire-là. Qu’est ce qui vient nourrir tes dessins? Ce qui me prends aux tripes. Je prends des choses en photos pour plus tard, et j’essaie de voyager une fois par an minimum pour m’enrichir, Japon, Mexique, Australie, Cambodge, Malaisie… et m’en mettre plein les yeux, des pays qui sortent de la culture européenne, à travers les gens, la faune, la flore, l’architecture, etc. Une ambiance peut être très inspirante. J’ai aussi un côté un peu geek et tout ce qui est jeux vidéos ou dinosaures m’inspire beaucoup. Tu as commencé par tatouer des agrumes, maintenant tu tatoues un autre type de peaux d’orange, nos cuisses avides de tes dot. Ça te fait quoi ce chemin parcouru ? Je pense que j’ai eu de la chance. Des petits détails ont fait que ça a évolué dans le bon sens, comme des publications Instagram partagées par de gros comptes alors que j’étais encore « petite ». Ça a plu et l’engouement a été exponentiel. Des bonnes rencontres aussi, des bons conseils. C’est beaucoup d’efforts, j’ai sacrifié pas mal de moments de plaisir pour en arriver là. Je suis heureuse d’avoir fait tout ça. <img width="1024" height="1024" src="https://manifesto-21.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/IMG_2261-1024x1024.jpg"> Le milieu est quand même très concurrentiel, comment tu tires ton aiguille du jeu ? Il faut faire ce qu’on aime tout en gardant en tête ce que les gens aiment, trouver un entre deux. Plus on a de demandes, plus on peut se permettre des choses qui nous plaisent. La liberté va avec la créativité, c’est à dire qu’à partir du moment où les gens te font confiance, tu peux proposer à chaque nouveau projet des choses à la fois individuelles et audacieuses. Et ça c’est un vrai plaisir. Les gens vont vers les tatoueurs passionnés parce qu’ils ressentent cette passion, cette envie de bien faire. Et surtout, avoir un style que tu ne vois nulle part ailleurs. C’est comment l’ambiance entre tatoueurs ? Parce que chacun a forcément envie de développer son business, mais en même temps il existe des guests, où des tatoueurs sont invités et mis en avant par d’autres shops… Les tatoueurs sont des gens relax, curieux, et dans le partage, en tout cas ceux que j’ai rencontré !Les guests ça permet de voir des choses nouvelles dans la technique, dans le matériel, et c’est super intéressant pour évoluer soi-même. Fréquenter d’autres artistes ça ouvre d’autres possibilités de création. Le tatouage évolue, et l’image du tatoueur aussi. Le quai Branly a consacré une expo à « l’art » du tatouage… Mais au regard de la loi française, vous êtes des prestataires de service, il y a toujours un décalage fort. Tin-tin, qui est le fondateur du Snat (Syndicat Nationale des Artistes Tatoueurs, ndlr), fait tout pour faire reconnaître le tatoueur comme un artiste, du coup une partie du tatouage est considéré comme de la création pure. C’est tout récent, et il a bien raison ! De plus en plus de gens se font tatouer, mais il y en a encore beaucoup qui disent « j’ai peur de regretter ». Tu leur réponds quoi ? Je n’en vois pas ! Je ne vois que des gens ultra motivés. Ils le font parce qu’il y a une signification, pour quelqu’un, pour un événement, un petit animal, un sentiment fort ou une envie purement esthétique.Parfois parce qu’ils ont un coup de cœur pour l’artiste et veulent l’avoir dans la peau. Certaines personnes collectionnent les tatouages et doivent peut-être considérer ça comme des œuvres d’art. Justement, il y a un mec qui a vendu sa peau tatouée pour 150 000 €… envie de payer tes prochaines vacances ? Est-ce que j’ai envie de vendre ma peau ? Je n’y ai jamais vraiment pensé. Je préférerais donner mes organes si ça peut sauver des vies, plutôt que d’être dépouillée et exposée. Dans une précédente interview, tu disais que tu avais commencé par dessiner sur le corps de tes camarades… Est-ce que ça te plairait d’avoir un corps entier à ta disposition? Mais tellement ! Ca serait génial. Par contre, ça serait des heures de travail mais je serais ravie de faire ça ! Donc s’il y a des gens motivés… (sourire) Ton tout premier tatouage signifie « dieu destructeur d’obstacles », comme tu en as déjà franchi pas mal, quel sera ton dernier ? Il n’y aura jamais de dernier parce si on a vraiment envie d’un tattoo on trouve toujours une petite place ! Au pire si un jour mon corps est rempli je pourrai toujours faire des blast over !
